Your Journey Begins – Greymouth to Kumara

Start your adventure in Greymouth, heading south along the trail toward the charming heritage town of Kumara. This leg offers stunning scenery, peaceful trails, and a touch of history as you pass through native bush and old mining landscapes. Spend the night in one of Kumara’s beautiful accommodations, and we’ll ensure your luggage is waiting for you when you arrive.

Day Two – Kumara to Lake Kaniere

After a hearty breakfast, hop back on your bike and set out towards Lake Kaniere, taking in the remnants of the gold rush era along the way. Ride past the Kapitea Reservoir, then on to the Loopline Reservoir and its historic hand-laid stone dam from 1883.

Enjoy the sweeping boardwalks and well-maintained gravel trails as you pass water races, logging tramways, and historic pack tracks through the tranquil Kawhaka Valley. You’ll cycle past man-made dams and fresh mountain-water weirs, offering both scenic beauty and fascinating local history.

Lake Kaniere – A Natural Masterpiece

Nestled among lush forest and towering mountains, Lake Kaniere is a glacial lake known for its crystal-clear waters, native birdlife, and peaceful surroundings. Often referred to as the most beautiful lake on the West Coast, it’s a perfect reward after a full day on the bike.

From here, we’ll shuttle you to Hokitika, where you’ll spend your second night. Once again, we’ll transfer your luggage so it’s ready and waiting at your next accommodation.
