Gloria of Greymouth is one of the West Coast’s most unexpected and joyful landmarks — a historic Greymouth church transformed into a bold, bubble-gum pink work of art by artist Sam Duckor-Jones.
After moving to Greymouth in 2021, Sam found more than just a place to live. He discovered a space where creativity, community, and nature could collide. What began as a home and workshop quickly evolved into the church itself becoming the artwork — an immersive, ever-changing public sculpture that invites curiosity and conversation.
At the heart of Gloria is the celebration of queer and rainbow communities in small towns, championing the idea that people can stay, belong, and thrive exactly where they are. Inside, visitors may encounter Sam’s growing congregation of handmade paper mâché “parishioners,” each dressed in playful, imaginative costumes that reflect individuality and joy.
Gloria of Greymouth is colourful, thought-provoking, and proudly unique — a must-see expression of creativity and inclusivity on the West Coast.
