KATHMANDU COAST TO COAST MORE INFORMATION
Held every February, the Kathmandu Coast to Coast is one of New Zealand’s most iconic multisport events. Starting on the West Coast at Kumara Beach, athletes traverse the South Island coast-to-coast, finishing on the East Coast in Christchurch, typically at New Brighton Beach. The race challenges competitors with a demanding route that includes cycling, mountain running, and kayaking, crossing the Southern Alps and reaching altitudes of over 1,000 metres above sea level.

The event was the brainchild of former Race Director Robin Judkins, with the first official race held on February 26–27, 1983, and just 79 competitors taking part. Since then, the Coast to Coast has grown significantly, now attracting over 800 athletes from around the globe each year.

In 1987, the legendary “Longest Day” category was introduced—an intense one-day challenge that is now considered the World Championship of multisport.

To date, more than 20,000 participants have completed the event, making the Coast to Coast a rite of passage for endurance athletes worldwide, and a celebrated symbol of Kiwi grit, resilience, and adventure.
