This Heritage Building has been accommodating people for over 100 years and is an important example of Gothic Revival architecture built in 1874. Over the year’s the building has been used as a jail, women’s prison and military camp. It now is Jailhouse Accommodation offering a budget backpackers close to the Railway Station, Riccarton/Westfield Mall and Hagley Park. From dorm beds to family rooms as well as private doubles, singles and twin rooms, Jailhouse can cater to everyone’s needs.The Jailhouse Accommodation has had a very fascinating history as Addington Prison from 1874 to 1999, and since opening as a backpackers hostel in 2006 our amazing, award winning accommodation has become renowned as a must-stay on the backpacker circuit.

The vibrant suburb of Addington has become an entertainment hub with awesome new cafes, eateries and bars such as Simo’s Mosaic, Addington Coffee Co-op, Morrell and Co and The Pedal Pusher right on our doorstep. We are the closest hostel to the Railway Station and the Orangetheory Stadium, Horncastle Arena, Addington Raceway, Hagley Park and the Court Theatre are all within walking distance from us and the Orange Line bus into the city runs right past the hostel every 15 minutes.
