Buller Gorge Swing Bridge
Date: January 7th, 2021
Buller Gorge Swing Bridge
Welcome to a place of excitement and adventure, where visitors can feel the rush of the Cometline ride, experience the thrill of the Jet boat, walk the heights of New Zealand’s longest swing bridge, pan for abundant gold treasure, or simply relax and view some of New Zealand’s best native flora and fauna on one of the many nature walks.

Buller Gorge Swingbridge Adventure and Heritage Park is a must-see tourism destination, located just hours away from Nelson and Picton, Westport and the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island, and Christchurch.
Whether you can spare five minutes or a few hours, they’ll be well spent in the Buller Gorge Swingbridge Adventure and Heritage Park.
Swingbridge & Loop Walks
Cross New Zealand’s longest Swingbridge on the 110m long Buller Gorge Swingbridge. Suspended 19 metres high above the mighty Buller River. Experience nature, explore history and extend your scope for thrill-seeking on the far side. From 10 minutes to 2 hours or even a whole day, Buller Gorge Swingbridge Adventure and Heritage Park has attractions for everyone.
Buller Canyon Jet Boat Thrills
Lonely Planet thinks this may just about be the best jet boat trip in New Zealand. Find out why. Your 40 minute trip will take you between pink granite rocks, through beautiful native forest to explore quiet creeks, swimming with trout before spinning round and heading upstream to the spectacular white water of the Ariki Falls. Forget the rest do the best. Add to the value with a Comet Line or Supaman Combo.
The driver will pull over at Deep Creek to allow you to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the river, interrupted only by the calls of the native birds, before relating a short story of the early explorers, goldminers and the natural history of the area.
Departing hourly from 10am to 4pm during the summer months (conditions allowing) and by arrangement during winter.

Jet Boat
High Speed Comet Line & Superman Ride

Westway Homestay B&B
Date: April 3rd, 2019
Westway Homestay B&B

Westway Homestay B&B is a quality bed and breakfast establishment located 10 minutes north of Greymouth in a quiet valley with hillsides covered in native bush. Whether you are travelling on your own, as a couple or in a small group, your hosts at Westway aim to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing.
Westway’s three guest bedrooms and two guest bathrooms are configured to be ideal for multi-generational family groups: grandparents on the ground floor, parents in the first-floor room with ensuite, and kids in the twin room, half a floor above the parents’ room. We also have a spacious lounge area, veranda, deck and garden for guests to enjoy.
Make the most of your holiday and stay at Westway Homestay!

There’s fascinating local history on the property in the form of an historic tunnel that dates back to 1904. New Zealand’s first State-owned coal mine was located further up the valley and coal was transported through the tunnel on a twin-track rope way to coal storage bins and then on by rail to the port in Greymouth. The coal from this area was much in demand for domestic and export markets.
The mine has long since gone and these days glow worms inhabit the tunnel and its cutting. There are always glow worms to see after dark but their numbers vary; when they cooperate it’s easy to think that the stars come right down to the ground.

The tourism slogan “Untamed Natural Wilderness” is also appropriate for Westway’s setting and your hosts have a fund of knowledge that will make all the difference to your West Coast experience. Like the other residents of the West Coast we’re known as “Coasters” – a friendly and hospitable lot.
Local things to do: When you stay at Westway you’ll have:
Walk on some beaches. Free Wi-Fi.
Visit some lakes. Free phone calls within New Zealand.
Visit historic gold mining sites. Flexible check-in and check-out times.
Do a bush walk. Dinner available on request from Wayne’s Kitchen.
Have lunch in a West Coast country pub. Laundry service available.
Hire a bike. Free transport to and from the TranzAlpine in Greymouth.
Visit historic coal mining sites.
Take photos to remember how much you enjoyed your visit.
Have your Westway hosts show you around town.
Visit local art and craft galleries.
See a West Coast sunset.
Dine in or dine out.
Have a good night’s sleep.

Quickly becoming known as a ‘bucket-list’ attraction, New Zealand’s longest single-track resurrects an old gold miners’ route between the ghost town of Lyell in the Buller Gorge and Seddonville on the West Coast. With expertly cut track and comfortable sleeping huts in an environment dominated by ancient rainforest, rocky mountain tops and a rugged river gorge, this is a premier multi-day backcountry experience.
While not for the faint-of-heart or inexperienced, if you match your capability and prepare appropriately, The Old Ghost Road will reward the fit and experienced adventurer with a premier multi-day backcountry experience.
To broaden the audience and to make the trail more accessible to a range of appetites, a set of new exciting packages – Old Ghost Adventures – has been created. Old Ghost Adventures include such options as helicopter assists to the astounding alpine tops, helicopter luggage assists, rustic luxury accommodation to start or end your journey, end-to-end transport shuttles, heli-biking or heli-hiking and even rafting the Mokihinui Gorge as the final leg of your journey.
Trail Accommodation
The Old Ghost Road has different accommodation options that are inspired by gold mining towns. The settlements consist of an insulated communal hut, two mild-weather ‘summer sleepouts’ and a designated tent site. In addition to these settlements, two other pre-existing huts with varying facilities (Mokihinui Forks and Goat Creek) are located along the trail.
Advance bookings are required for the main hut sites. Detailed information and bookings can be found and completed at http://www.oldghostroad.org.nz/book-huts/
