How far is the Greymouth town centre from the Greymouth Railway Station?
A 2 minute walk.

We only have an hour when we arrive in Greymouth on the TranzAlpine before we return to Christchurch. What can we do?
Check out the wonderful array of souvenirs, local pounamu (jade), jewellery & food that we have in our gift shop. Wireless and broadband internet access at the Greymouth Railway Station ( cheapest in town), visit the town centre, walk along the river bank (seating is provided), art gallery (local artists exhibit).

What do we do with our luggage? 
Greymouth Travel Centre is open Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm, Sat & Sun 10am – 3pm. You can check in your luggage any time after opening. Bring your ticket with you for seat allocation and you will be given a luggage tag and we will load your luggage for you. Baggage storage facilities available as well.

Is there a food service on board the TranzAlpine?
Yes, you can purchase café style food, light meals, beer, wine, tea, coffee.

Are there different classes of seating on the train?
No, all one class.

What is the viewing carriage?
This carriage has no seating or glass in the windows and provides an excellent way of taking panoramic photos and of course, lots of fresh air.

What is the maximum number of carriages the TranzAlpine can pull?
Two locomotive engines pull a maximum of 13 carriages.

Can I get off theTranzAlpine trip at any stage?
A 5 minute stop is made at the Arthur’s Pass Railway Station. Otherwise stops are only for pick and set downs of passengers

Are there toilets on board the TranzAlpine?
Yes, one in every carriage.

Will I need a jacket on the train?
If you are going to the viewing carriage you will need a jacket, the carriages are fully air-conditioned.

Do they have eftpos or credit card facilities on the train?
No

Scheduled arrival in Christchurch is 6.05pm

Where can we hire a rental car from?
At the train station, there are agents for Apex, Avis, Budget, Europcar & Hertz.

What public transport is available for going North and South?
You can travel either direction by buses or shuttles.

How long to drive to Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers from Greymouth?
Franz Josef is about a 2.5 hour drive from Greymouth and Fox Glacier is about 3.5 hours.

How long to drive to Punakaiki?
45 minutes each way from Greymouth.
